OBJECTIVES AND FEATURES OF THE PROGRAM

The Nursing Program enables a person to become competent in the practice of the Nursing Profession by giving them the knowledge and skills necessary such as theoretical, laboratory and clinical experience. This will allow them to play a vital role in the health care system.

The techniques are taught in a state-of-the art laboratory. The clinical fieldwork is spread progressively over a three-year period. The first year, fieldwork takes place in the hospitals of the region. The second and third year, fieldwork takes place outside the region.

The present program begins in September 2008 and will be in english.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES

Nurses usually work in public and private establishments in the Health Care Services. Their interventions can be part of short or long term care provided to patients such as infants (neonatal), children (pediatrics), elderly (gerontology). They can also provide their services to promote prevention, health and treatment of illness, re-adaptation and palliative care.

REQUIREMENTS NECESSARY TO OBTAIN THE NURSING DIPLOMA

In order to practice their profession the students must obtain a licence by passing the Professional Examination given by the professionnal order « Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec » (www.oiiq.org) after having completed their three-year program.
